The tracking system consists of a GPS / GSM module which clips into either a rechargeable battery for personal or surveillance applications or a DC power adaptor for permanent connection to e.g. a vehicle or boat.
In operation, the Locator communicates its position and a wide range of additional data including alarms via SMS text messages to a designated GSM mobile phone (the host). Pre programmed functions in the Locator can be remotely activated by sending control codes to the Locator from the host.
When the Locator is communicating with the host by SMS, the user is presented with information such as alarm status, GPS status, current or last longitude and latitude, date, time etc. in text format. Using low cost street level mapping software on a PC the user can convert the latitude and longitude to find the exact position of the Locator to within a few metres. With optional PC software, the host GSM phone can be connected to a PC enabling the user to control the functions of the Locator via simple menu’s and view its location on street level mapping.
The Locator requires a SIM card which can be “pay as you go” or an annual contract depending on how frequently the user wants to send and receive messages. Any GSM phone will communicate with the Locator by SMS, but if the user wishes to connect a GSM phone to a PC, please refer to the list of recommended phones below.
The following functions may be activated remotely:
Automated messages
Position, speed, direction, time and date (predefined time interval and number of positions)
Position, speed, direction, time and date within a predefined area
Presence or absence of Locator within defined “checkpoint” areas (15 max. predefined areas)
Alarm message when Locator moves a given distance from current location (Geofence).
On Demand
Sleep mode
Position, speed, direction, time and date
History log
Distance, direction and speed from a predefined location

The following GSM phones have been tested for compatibility with the Locator PC software but this does not imply that other phones are incompatible.
Ericsson T28
Ericsson T39
Ericsson T65
Ericsson T68
Nokia Card Phone 2.0
Nokia 6110 (BlueTooth)
Please note that a serial connection is required between the GSM mobile phone and the PC via a serial cable (not supplied) or BlueTooth.
