Garmin International is pleased to announce Garmin Mobile PC, a navigation package that turns ultra mobile PCs and laptops into powerful navigators. This version does not include the GPS 20x, any suitable NMEA GPS unit can sbe used.

Garmin Mobile PC features the same easy-to-use “where to?” and “view map” interface found on Garmin nüvi® and StreetPilot® portable navigation devices. With a few clicks, customers can quickly search and route to addresses or points of interest like restaurants, hotels, attractions, gas stations, and more. In addition, users can navigate to Outlook contacts stored on their PC or laptop.

Garmin Mobile PC is available in two configurations – a bundle with software and GPS 20x sensor or a software-only package. The bundled version includes the new GPS 20x, a high sensitivity GPS sensor with a USB connection. The GPS 20x has non-skid pads for dash mounting and is less than two inches in length. Users who purchase the software and GPS 20x sensor bundle can use their laptop to receive turn-by-turn, voice-prompted directions to their destination. If a turn is missed along the way, Garmin Mobile PC will automatically recalculate a route and get them back on track. Those selecting the software-only package can plan routes from their PC to make driving trouble free. The software only version is compatible with broadband modems, as well as internal or third-party GPS receivers that provide the industry standard NMEA GPS data via serial or Bluetooth connections.

Garmin Mobile PC also provides free access to Garmin Online services. This real-time data service simplifies trip planning by providing live weather, flight status and safety camera data (with subscription where applicable). *

Garmin Mobile PC offers much more than traditional trip planning. Users can use their laptop to receive turn-by-turn, voice-prompted directions to their destination, similar to Garmin’s traditional portable navigation devices. If a turn is missed along the way, Garmin Mobile PC will automatically recalculate the route and get them back on track. Garmin Mobile PC also offers advanced route options which allow users to select specific roads for their trip, avoid geographic areas, and auto sort multiple destinations. Drivers who want to keep track of where they have been can turn on the trip log feature and see an electronic breadcrumb trail that shows exactly where they traveled. In addition, a smart trip odometer automatically records trip data. Garmin Mobile PC includes highly detailed City Navigator® NT road maps for Europe. The preloaded map data features points of interest including hotels, restaurants, gas stations, ATMs and attractions. The map data is provided by NAVTEQ™, a world leader in premium-quality mapping.
