The DVD disc has massive capacity, offering you helpful information in plentiful quantity. Even when you cross international borders there's no bother of changing discs. Furthermore, DVD's rapid access means less waiting. Operation is smooth and stress-free. Maps look clear and colourful on the screen. Displayed POI (points of interest) icons and your vehicle position mark are easy-to-understand. Everything about the images is designed for the drivers safety and security. Panasonic DVD Navigation is so powerful and convenient, you will look forward to using it on every journey. The disc used by this system is developed by Navtech, the navigational map database specialist and originator of the SDAL format. The disc has voice and menu data in six languages - English, French, German, Italian, Dutch and Spanish - and map colour can be set for visibility (or just to suit your taste). Other features include powerful search functions (including Address, Intersection, Points of Interest, History, Marked Point and Map Scroll), Route Calculation and turn-by-turn Route Guidance. Features GPS POSITIONING To accurately determine your vehicle's position, Panasonic uses a hybrid system combining GPS and self-contained navigation methods. The self-contained navigation uses a gyro-sensor and speed sensor to derive vehicle position when GPS satellite signals can't be picked up temporarily. By correlating such measured data with map database data - a process known as "map matching" - it is possible to show your vehicle's location on a map display with a high degree of precision. The effectiveness of this system is particularly apparent on narrow roads tht have many twists and turns within a short distance. Fine detection of the changing angle of the vehicle on curves further contributes to high-precision map matching performance. NAVIGATION: Destination Search & Input Powerful search functions are at your fingertips - helping you find your destination in a choice of six easy and effective ways. It uses a convenient "slot machine" submenu format: enter the first few letters of your destination and it fills out the rest, listing potential places automatically. Then simply choose from names showing on the list. The database is so extensive, it even covers hotels, filling stations and other points of interest. For your route you can also select by time priority and motorway usage. Address Enter not just the street name, but the actual address and this will show you where it is on the map. Input is quick and convenient, since you don't have to spell out each place name completely. You can also speed up your search and narrow down your choices from the start by entering the city name or the postal code which indicates a smaller area around your target location. Intersection Input the main street name and then the cross street name. In case several cities have the same intersecting street names you can add the city name. Points of Interest (POI) Information Select a point of interest - from amusement parks to hotels and restaurants, from 52 categories (max). Some categories can be further narrowed down by their chain name. Enter the first few letters of your desired POI; a list will show name, distance and direction of each. Instead of choosing a category first, you can use "Any Type". There's also "Nearest POI Search" which shows up to 20 points within about 10 miles radius of a location - convenient if you're running out of fuel and need a petrol station. 530,000 POI's are now included on the Europe DVD, including 47,000 hotels, 45,000 car parks, 63,000 petrol stations, 96,000 restaurants and 173,000 city centres. 41,000 post codes are also included - post code data input lets you find a destination without needing to specify a city. It's ideal for specifying addresses. History The last 49 destinations and your most recent starting point are stored in memory. Just choose from the "History" list. There's no need to go through a new selection procedure for frequently visited destinations. Marked Point The "Select Marked Point" screen shows previously memorized points (such as "Home") with identifying icons - just scroll up or down to highlight the one you want. You can keep adding to this list (up to 100 maximum). Each point can have one of 32 icons. Map Scroll The remote control joystick lets you scroll in eight directions. Press the joystick centre to display street name and POI name at the cursor position. A disc may offer a choice of up to 12 (max) map scales (100 yards to 250 miles) and vaiable scroll speed. NAVIGATION: Route Calculation At the heart of the Panasonic system is a powwerful 32-bit RISC CPU. With this kind of processing horsepower in your car, you can easily find the best route and the most time-saving way to get to any destination. It even lets you set your criteria for route selection. For example, you can choose the Shortest Route or choose to Avoid Motorway. Choice of Three Routes You can choose from the three routes if you want to see alternatives to the initial recommendation. Estimated time and distance are displayed for each so you can make an informed decision. Up to 5 Via Points To suit your needs and your mood, you can specify up to five places to be included in your route. You might even use this function to find potential routes to visit several clients or make deliveries. Points can be added or deleted in route. Detour Distance or Avoid Street(s) Whenever necessary, you can request a detour from your selected route - a great help in case of unexpected road construction or other impediments. Detours can be shown in your choice of scale (1, 2, 5, 10, 20 miles) and can even be set ahead of time (by selecting a street from the manoeuvre list). NAVIGATION: Route Guidance At last, there is a system that knows local roads at least as well as local residents. As you approach each intersection, the voice-over will tell you which way to turn, while the display shows a magnified image, giving you time to make lane changes. Map Scale and Orientation With smooth switching among up to 12 (max) map scales, you can zoom in and out to see details or to orient yourself in a wider area. You can also change nimbly between North Up and Heading Up displays, the "N Up"more suitable for use when searching a map and the "Head Up" more suitable for use while travelling, with the "Head Up" automatically scrolling and matching the actual movement of your position. Selectable Map Colour Map colour can be set to green, beige or black. Display brightness can be linked to car light switching to provide automatic adjustment to night and day illumination. You can coordinate the display colour with your car interior or just select your favourite! Voice Guidance in your Language On ordinary roads you are told of upcoming turns 700, 300 and 100 yards ahead of time when possible. On high-speed motorways, you are informed 1 mile, 0.5 mile and 0.25 mile ahead. Eight different directions include diagonal turns - clearly stated to avoid ambiguity. You can choose from six languages. To hear the next direction and the estimated time to your destination, you can press the Voice key whenever you like. Intersection Zoom Map This suppplements the voice guidance, to help you maneuver unfamiliar roads with the panache of a veteran. When you reach a distance of about 200 yards from an intersection, a required turn will be magnified on the display. Also shown is remaining distance, direction of turn, and road to be taken after turning. If turns occur in rapid succession, the display will show distance to the succeeding turn, its direction and road name on a separate line. Direction Guide by Arrow You can select the Guide Mode to see an arrow indicating directional changes. This provides a large and simple display of only the most essential information. Auto Reroute If traffic is slow, you can follow your intuition onto side streets without worrying about losing your way. The system can automatically recompute and display the optimum route to your destination. Includes: CN-DV2300 DVD Navigation System Remote Control GPS Antenna User Manual
